SharePoint meets AI: The Future of Enterprise Data

For years, I watched SharePoint become the place where documents went to die in corporate environments. Nobody wanted to use it, and finding anything was a nightmare.

But honestly, after spending the last few months installing and configuring Copilot integrations in my clients’ environments, my perspective has completely shifted. Microsoft didn’t just give the platform a facelift; they connected it directly to the enterprise’s “brain” through AI.

What I’ve noticed day-to-day

Before, finding a specific HR policy document from 2021 required 10 clicks and a lot of luck. Now, with AI integrated, I simply type into the interface: “Synthesize the 2021 vacation policy compared to the current one”, and within seconds I have an answer with links to the source documents.

It’s incredible to see how the friction of searching simply vanishes.

The Adoption Challenge

Still, the tool isn’t magic if the underlying structure is a mess. I’ve had to spend hours convincing teams that Copilot’s success depends 100% on permissions and the underlying information architecture. If your company has sensitive information poorly configured, the AI will find it and show it to the wrong person.

Working as an admin has definitely become less about “where to save the file” and more about “how we govern knowledge.” I’ll keep documenting my findings here.
